The Koch Brother’s Karma

For the past few days, chicken and what evil may be lurking in it, has been on the news here quite a bit.

Can you guess who owns the producers of these chicken products that are being recalled?

That would be the Koch Brothers, et al.

Food safety should be everyone’s top priority in this and every Country and selling and/or eating contaminated food is just crazy, when the whole world is totally wired and connected right now.

This was not the Koch Brother’s first brush with either bad food, or trouble at their Plants, as they have had issues several times in the past few years, links to these stories are below.

One of the stories that came up while looking for more about this chicken recall, was not about a recall at all, but about a raid on one of the Koch Plants.

It seems that a few years ago, an Ohio plant was raided and 160 illegal immigrants were taken into custody by ICE or the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

This same Plant had been under surveillance for two years by their agents before the raid.

I am not quite sure, but don’t the Koch Brother’s belong to and give quite generous financial support to a political party that is highly opposed to any/all illegal immigrants in this country?

Oops~

But for now, if you have any of the above mentioned products in your freezer, please protect yourself and your family, dispose of them properly, or follow the directions at the USDA website.

Also listed below is a link to the USDA for Recalls, it would be good for you to check it as often as possible.

I have always been a great believer in Karma, but in the case of the Koch Brothers, I fear that they may outlive us all and never meet theirs.

A good friend on Facebook alerted me to this vital information this morning and because it has been an important part of my past, I felt compelled to share it here.

This ugly story is about yet another way that Humans have caused mortal harm often, with little concern, to their fellow Humans.

Years ago, we had Native Friends in the East who had developed severe physical afflictions from growing up in Arizona during the time when Uranium mining  was being  done with little regard to the effect it would have on Humans, primarily the Native people who lived near the mining areas there.

This was not the only instance of US mining processes harming Native people, there were many others, all just as deadly.

From the information gleaned from my searches this morning, it seems that we have a lengthy history in this country of deliberate neglect, and willful intent to harm others on a regular basis and shamefully for profit.

This is the story of the women, most of who worked in the Eastern United States, New Jersey to be exact, in factories making products often for the US Government, that would in a very short time and after great suffering on their part, end their lives.

They, without their consent or knowledge, were being poisoned by radiation from Radium.

At this time in our early US history, many people freely used, or worked with and handled, this what is now known to be deadly substance.

Even Marie Curie the renowned Polish Scientist, who won two Nobel Prizes, one in Chemistry and one in Physics, was not exempt from their lethal effects.

She was not only the first woman to win one, but she was also the only woman to win two!

After a lifetime of one brilliant accomplishment after another, sadly, her work with this very dangerous substance, Radium, would eventually cause her death.

Her development of  aplastic anemia was said to be linked to  her bad  habit of carrying toxic, radioactive isotope test tubes in her lab coat pockets.

Tragically, Madame Curie, like the other Radium Girls, would in the end, succumb to the very evil that she had helped to discover.

Et tu Wendy’s?

Black Bean Sliders

Just as I was beginning a post this morning about a new product that makes my heart sing, bam the door slammed shut on me.

You see in my mail today, was a nifty story about a new Black Bean Burger being introduced at a select number of Wendy’s in Ohio.

But, regretfully when I started reading it, there was also a side story, that pointed to a quite unhappy situation.

It would seem that the about to become newest favorite eatery, Wendy’s, is embroiled in a mess over wages, with ugly insults being hurled, indicating that they may have participated in what amounts to slave labor with their employees.

Now, if the idea of a Black Bean Burger is new to you, please let me share this, my best friend at UCLA was married to the Manager of one of their top Campus eating places and he delighted in letting me know each week when he made them, knowing full well that I hated meat and loved this culinary treat.

I never did learn all of the ingredients of this delicious, decadent burger, but had been a huge fan of Black Beans for many years, so never cared a whole lot about what he put into them.

Moving to Florida basically closed the door on all of my favorite California vegetarian eating places, as I soon learned that they were not high on anyone’s totem pole here.

So, not willing to eat the Morning Star veggie burgers made with soy beans that have been processed with Hexane, a known carcinogen and pretty much a toxin/pesticide, I had given up hope.

That was until a few months ago, when shockingly I found a new Black Bean Burger from a previously unknown Company, at our local Wal-Mart.

Bringing it home was a challenge, as Walkingfox is not huge on doing without meat.

Surprise, he liked them and has become a fan, of sorts.

But being out on a shopping or other trip and hoping to find one was not to be, at least not here.

So, you can imagine my delight this morning seeing/reading this story about Wendy’s.

Joy quickly turned to sorrow, after reading that they are having similar salary and wages problems  with their employees as Waffle House is.

Right now the delectable Black Bean Burgers are only being tested in Ohio, near Wendy’s Corporate offices, but it looks like that may change quickly judging from the public responses to them.

Now if they can only get their employee/wages issues fixed, Wendy’s may yet become a new place to eat on the run.

And, if they don’t, then, as with Waffle House, we will not be dining there any time soon either.

So, dear Wendy’s, please treat your employees right, pay them right and this may after all, be only a rhetorical question, et tu Wendy’s?

I first saw this story in my mail a few days ago and because it was so very ugly and pointed accusing fingers at one of my all time favorite places to get a pecan waffle, I put it aside.

But after mulling over this information for several sleepless nights, I decided that sharing it was absolutely necessary.

The report/story from AlterNet, is the first one in the reference list below.

This most disturbing story was about Waffle House, one of the most prolific breakfast places in America.

They have hundreds of restaurants throughout America, 2,100 of them actually, in 25 states, many of which are in the South were they are headquartered.

This Georgia chain has been around since 1955 and until I saw this story, my only complaint had been their practice of allowing smoking on the premises and the fact that they were not always the cleanest places to eat.

But my love of the perfect pecan waffle overrode my two minor objections, until now.

Now I find myself sickened and disgusted by a place that I will in the future refuse to eat in, unless they have a complete and total makeover starting from the top down.

If even half of the accusations in this searing report are accurate, Waffle House will never get another penny from me as a customer.

As the old saying goes, the head of the snake must be cut off.

Aside from all of the employee abuse complaints and accusations, and lawsuits by women of sexual harassment, I find the news that this Company has such strong ties with a Political Party and a platform that I find personally reprehensible, for its repeated abuses of women in this country, unacceptable.

This Company is sleeping with the enemy in my mind.

So Dear Waffle House, you are no longer on my Menu!

Microbeads Petition

My Dear Readers, this will be short and sweet.

A petition was just sent to me and not only did I sign and share it,  I also wrote about it a few months ago on one of my other Blogs:   What Do 7 UP, Micro Beads and Lithium All Have in Common?

This petition lists many of the harmful  and deleterious effects that these nasty little micro beads are having on our planet, especially our oceans and their fragile sea life.

Won’t you please consider signing and sharing it as well?

No New Ideas Needed

It all started out innocently enough.

I was going through my email this morning and saw a new petition for McDonald’s.

This particular petition was about something that I personally have been nagging them about for years, or every single time that I went there, which by the way, in the past few years has been less and less.

I do not like meat or hamburgers and have repeatedly suggested to them that they might want to consider making some sort of meatless or veggie burger, as several of their competitors have already done.

Even better, to introduce a few Organic items!

Each and every time I was met with the same blank stare and ” ok, we will suggest it…”

In California, we who don’t like meat are not a minority, we are a strong group with many voices in high places, like the countless celebrities who also choose not to eat animals and love Organic Foods.

This petition was written by a woman in California who was asking a huge company, which at the present time is all over the news for its financial woes, to consider making a meatless burger.

The Company is cutting their Dollar meals, shuffling their vast menu, and has had a somewhat dismal showing for the past two years, many say.

They have had issues with China and meat and a variety of other embarrassing issues.

None has been very good for their image.

So, I was delighted to go and see this new petition and to absolutely sign it and support it.

However, when I got there, it seems that the desired numbers had already been reached.

Well, that’s very good news and there was also a letter from the author with suggestions for other things to do in support of the Petition and all the necessary details were included in it.

As I don’t do Twitter and wanted to go beyond just posting it on my FB page,  I  then, as suggested, called the company directly.

What happened next is the honest truth, you cannot make this stuff up.

I dialed the number, it rang and a pleasant computer asked me to make a choice of directions to be transferred to next.

I listened to all of the different choices and finally selected  ” suggest new ideas.”

This is the response, or answer that the computer gave me, I swear on my beloved Grandmother.

” I’m sorry, but McDonald’s does not accept any new ideas from anyone who does not work for the company.”

End quote!

Umm,  McDonald’s, I think I see the problem and why your sales and profits may be going down the proverbial drain.

You obviously do not listen, nor care what your customers think.

And you don’t want any ” new ideas “  from those who just happen to pay your salaries.

Deadly Debacles

Both of our PT Cruisers may have parts in them from Takata’s Mexico Plant.

The news this week of serious Air Bag flaws and failures, has been an alarming and terrifying one for car owners everywhere and two Floridians were also among the victims, one lost an eye, the other tragically, lost her life.

The once very much respected auto addition mandated by N.H.T.S.A. and other safety programs many years ago, now, can and have killed people.

One of the factors that has been suggested to cause this air bag failure is said to be humidity, which makes those of us living here in Florida feeling more than a little nervous right now.

The fact that the guilty makers of the air bags and the car companies who did not alert consumers immediately show how little respect or concern all of them have for us, those who keep them in business.

So these car companies: Honda, BMW, Chrysler, GM, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda and Mitsubishi have had about 14 million cars recalled for air bag issues.

Takata, one of the world’s  biggest air bag manufacturers, is one of those who makes the air bags in question.

And they and others, are doing what they all usually do, waiting to see how the fall out goes.

A worrisome fact just learned today, is that a factory that Takata has admitted may  have made defective air bags was at one of their plants in Mexico more than ten years ago.

Both of our PT Cruisers were made there.

It has not been recalled, to our knowledge.

As in the recent past with the countless other recalls, some of the car makers have been sullenly, deadly, silent in their egregious failure to protect people.

This nightmare for owners of the recalled cars is not new, it has been going on with no clue to the terrified owners since at least 2004 and that is ten long deadly years!

Globally auto makers have brought this on themselves with denials and foot-dragging responses over recalls in the recent past.

It is not just one, it is too many and it is inexcusable.

Exactly, how much is a human life worth to these companies?

Apparently not a lot!

With the recent ignition switches failures and other terrifying events in the news nearly daily here, is it any wonder that people are afraid to but a new car, or now even a used one?

This ugly mess is completely of their own making, they are guilty and they know it.

But as someone at Ford was long ago quoted as saying, these may be the just the newest,  “acceptable losses.”

Well, in the end, the consumer may just have the last word on this issue and say, “enough.”

“Hey Auto makers, we refuse to put up with, or accept another one of your deadly Debacles!”

What Do 7 UP, Micro Beads and Lithium All Have in Common?

They are all things we might not want, if given a choice~

Reading my email this morning suddenly became very disturbing.

Several different sources reported things being in our everyday products, that truly do not belong there.

First example: Lithium in 7 UP.

Yes that 7 Up, the one I used to drink as a kid because it was always around when my mom worked there.

What was most frightening, was the follow-up in the story.

It seems that when Lithium is present in drinking water, the rates of suicides decline.

Lithium apparently makes people happier, in safe levels that is, let’s not go nuts here.

I had heard the rumors for years about Coke and Cocaine, but had never heard about this until this morning.

Yikes, is there nothing that has not been altered?

Lithium was commonly used in the Rehab Center where I was a Nurse in California in the treatment of several conditions.

But, how safe was it to put in a drink consumed by millions, including children and pregnant women, without their knowledge?

Not really sure, but am glad they have stopped?

Next shall we talk about your toothpaste?

On the News this week was a story about tiny micro balls or beads now in some in toothpastes, being found in the gums of patients by Dental Hygientists and they are not happy about it.

They are causing numerous problems, like gum disease and infections.

These things are not biodegradable and stick around practically forever, it seems.

Not just in our bodies, but in our Environment as well.

Water supplies and aquatic life are the primary concern.

The beads have already been banned in Illinois.

Bans are already in place, or are pending, to keep our water safe from them.

New York will be next.

This is all not good!

If like me, you are a label reader for self-protection, in the case of toothpaste, this won’t work.

These sneaky Companies put the ingredients on the BOX, which of course we all throw away and not on the actual tube.

Not very nice!

Now the whole world knows about all of this and the Companies are bragging that it will be fixed by March of 2016.

Hello?

These little balls or beads are causing trouble and they need to go now Proctor & Gamble, Colgate, et., al…

For many years I used AIM because I liked the gel better than a yucky white paste.

But about 10 years ago I switched to Colgate for some reason, think because I had trouble finding AIM.

Then, about a year ago I saw a story on the News about an ingredient Sorbitol,  that I preferred not to have in my toothpaste and went looking once again for AIM.

I found it and switched back.

Remember, the true ingredients are on the BOX.

Today I will be taking a very close look at it to see if the little plastic balls are in it?

Oh and by the way, these same little balls are probably also in your favorite face wash and who knows what else.

We should all start looking at all of our products a lot closer.

As a consumer, I have a question?

Do we have any say in anything anymore?

These Mega Corporations are doing these things without our knowledge or consent.

Their decisions affect our lives and our Environment.

And the only way that we, the paying consumers, ever find out about these deceitful practices and often harmful additives, are when a whistleblower, or savvy investigative writer does a story which is then passed on to the unknowing, innocent dupes.

That would be you and me.

So, now you know what  7 UP, Micro Beads and Lithium all have in common!

Keytruda, this is personal!

montegobayjamica
Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The perfect combination for skin cancer.
First melanoma came just 2 years later!

Unless you have had a melanoma, this story may have slipped right by you in the paper.

I on the other hand, did see it this morning, while going through the week’s papers to go out for recycling.

This new Cancer drug made by Merck, was just approved by the FDA and may save countless lives, mine included.

If you have seen my Bio picture, you may have noticed that I am fair skinned with blond hair and blue eyes.

A desirable combination some may say, just not in my case.

After my second melanoma was diagnosed many years ago, I was sent to an LA Cancer Specialist who was part of the Kaiser Foundation which I was covered by in California.

His words still ring in my ears to this day,  ” if you had stayed in Indiana with that skin and coloring,  you might have had a chance, but you came here and baked in the California sun and this is what happens. “

What followed were 8 more melanomas and a total of 22 moles removed.

Melanomas run in families and are genetically linked, which puts my children at great risk now.

Lucky me, I have what is called Dysplastic nevus syndrome, which means that every mole on my body,  and there are many, wants  to become a melanoma when it grows up.

I know when they are bad, I have spent a lifetime looking at mine and those of many others.

For the next 15 years, I was the star patient of the Chief of Dermatology in the Panorama City Kaiser Hospital.

He loved my case, it was such a challenge just to see what would happen next.

He was an excellent Doctor, we became good friends and I adored him.

But back to this new drug I have just learned about today, Keytruda.

If it does what it promises, many melanoma patients whose cancer spreads, may just have a fighting chance.

If melanoma is a new word to you, it is a deadly skin cancer and once it has spread to your lymph nodes, you are a goner.

The lymph system immediately sends all those nice little melanoma cells throughout your body.

BAM, game over.

If you or a loved one has melanomas, which by the way has now become the deadliest form of skin cancer, for the love of God, tell them to ask their doctors about this new drug.

I will include many links below about skin cancers, melanomas especially and how to check your moles, this is critical if you are to  survive.

Also included will be the who, what, why and where of this new drug and what it will cost, as well as other helpful information.

I hesitated to write this today because it is so very personal, but what if one of you could be helped or even saved because of something you learned from this story?

That is why it is here.

I also want to address one more issue related to my melanomas and this will be especially personal and may shock you,  or bother you to read.

I apologize in advance for doing it, but as said in the paragraph before, some one might benefit from this information.

Several weeks ago, I made an appointment with a local doctor to go in for a check on my mole situation.

I know when they are bad, I have spent a lifetime looking at mine and those of many others.

And right now, I have a bad one and it needs to come off.

Anyway, I made an appointment and was set to see this doctor three days ago.

As always because procrastination is my middle name, I waited until the day before my appointment to fill out the new patient forms that had been mailed to me.

As I was wandering around in them, I started thinking, what if all of this is going to cost a small fortune?

I no longer had the wonderful “free coverage” of Kaiser Permanente in LA.

I am now responsible for any and all costs incurred in my health care.

Me!

So, I called the number on an ad that had recently come from AARP, with an invitation to enroll in their Supplemental Plan.

I had avoided this for several reasons in the past.

Here is what you do not know about this retired Treatment Nurse.

I despise, in no particular order, doctors, pills and medicine in general, when it comes to me.

I refuse to take pills for just about anything or everything.

I have not made a Doctor’s appointment since I left LA in 1999.

With my Cancer diagnosis, that is truly stupid.

But we simply did not have the money and I did not want to go hunting for a replacement for the wonderful man who took care of me in California.

I trusted no one!

So, I did nothing!

I hid my head in the sand and pretended that I would be fine.

Anyway, back to the supplemental plan from those nice people at AARP.

It all sounded good, I was ready to jump in and sign up.

I had a new Doctor lined up, an appointment made and a plan chosen to cover what Medicare did not.

Life was good.

So, then I went back to the forms and began to fill them out.

Uh oh!

Got to the page of what they accepted for payment or Insurance.

I had already asked about Medicare and they said that was accepted.

What I did not ask about was a supplemental.

Well you guessed it, there it was on the page of plans they took, they did not accept AARP.

Just to be completely sure, I called their office and asked.

She was adamant.

They did not take AARP as a supplement.

You must remember that for 30 years of my life I had Kaiser, they was never a charge for a single thing.

To say that I had grown complacent, is an understatement.

When I left LA and Kaiser in 1999, I was uncovered for the first time in my adult life.

What happened next was stupid, I admit it.

I called the office back and cancelled my appointment, saying that if they did not take AARP, I would have to cancel, not knowing how much the charges could amount to.

Dermatology care and treatment can be VERY expensive.

My appointment was for the next day, I said and there was no way I could go through that list of supplemental plans they do accept and pick one by then, I had to cancel.

I will not comment on her cold response, but it was not very kind.

Now, I have no Doctor, no appointment and must start all over looking for new ones of each~

I admit I was hot-headed about it, yes.

And procrastinating contributed greatly as well, but one thing sticks in my craw right now.

I have worked all of my life, since I was 9 with a paper route, paying into my SS.

I have never used it before now, so this first attempt being a most negative experience, is not a very good beginning.

Oh well, I will spend next week trying to sort it all out and get back on track.

I sincerely apologize for this ridiculous overindulgence of writing and beg for your forgiveness in having to read it.

BLAH,  BLAH,  BLAH!

Hopefully, I will not need this new drug, Kytruda, and yes this is personal.

Tawdry Trump

Donald_Trump

After watching a film not long ago  called  You’ve been Trumped  about Trump’s vicious and vile treatment of both a people and a place, as he forced a new Golf Course onto a small town in Scotland and the eventual sad outcome, seeing this glaring headline this morning in my mail, made me smile.

Everyone must eventually meet their Karma Donald and yours is about to be served up on a plate so big, that it may make even you choke!

This man, whom I consider the very persona of evil in America, is also the purist definition of a Bully.

And, he has been this way all of his life.

Trump has in the past, gotten his way, by brute force, or any number of other despicable means, nearly 100 % of the time.

But with this latest business failure, and even more  huge job losses, the Trump name may no longer be one many, or hopefully any, want to be associated with in a financial venture.

What Trump and too many Casinos did to Atlantic City is sad.

The once beautiful Boardwalk is now left trying to deal with repeated failing Casinos and hoping to find a way to clean up its now somewhat tarnished image.

Will those casinos still remaining avoid the same fate of those closing and closed, only time will tell if Atlantic City will become a Ghost Town?

The Governor is adamant that all will be fine:

Talks focus on fixing Atlantic City, with a Vegas assist

As you may gather, I have a very low opinion of Casinos and what they do to an area and the people who live there.

My complete  opposition to them, is perfectly matched by Walkingfox,  who watched them destroy both his Mohegan people and their culture in Connecticut with the two biggest Casinos in America.

What bothers most about Trump,  is that in spite of the huge wakes of destruction he usually leaves behind in his failed business deals, somehow, he always seems to land on his feet and come out without a scratch.

He is always able to walk away, to start over again with a new idea and a new group of sucker investors who like Trump, are driven by pure greed and have left their morals back home with their grandmothers.

Now, as always, Trump smiles his artificial smile, and talks his way out of every mess that he gets into and the innocent dupes close to him in any form of business transaction,  are left to deal with what he has done.

But hopefully one day, when Trump’s Karma comes to call, all the world will see this disgusting man for what he truly is:
Tawdry Trump.
